snap/velcro system

A MOLLE precursor pioneered primarily by Point Blank and to a lesser degree Eagle Industries. Used a grid of buttons or "snaps" on top of a sheet of velcro or "hook and loop" fabric. Very popular among special police units in the 90s, and used to a lesser degree by Force Recon Marines.
