parlimentary democracy of sweden
Enacted 1975: The current Instrument of Government in Sweden. It officially abolished all remaining political power for the King, making Sweden a fully parliamentary democracy with a purely ceremonial monarchy.
This constitution has been amended since; the most relevant changes include changes in the 1990s to accommodate Sweden's entry into the European Union, which also eventually led to Sweden officially joining NATO on March 7, 2024, becoming the 32nd member of the alliance.
While not constitutional in itself, this was a major chance, as by joining Sweden ended over two centuries of military non-alignment. This historic decision was prompted by the 2022 invasion of Ukraine (Russo-Ukraine War), initiated by Russian Federation leader Vladimir Putin.
