A piece of headwear meant to protect the head. Most modern helmets are "ballistic," meant to stop at least pistol rounds. Older steel_helmets were meant primarily to protect from fragments, but could defeat some pistol rounds. On the other hand, bump helmets are essentially skateboard helmets, meant to protect from bumps and falls.
