The Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists Volunteer Battalion (OUN Volunteen Battalion) was a prominent Ukrainian paramilitary and volunteer militia. Formed on a staunchly ideological basis during the initial 2014 conflict in the Donbas, it fought on the front lines before eventually being integrated into the official Armed Forces of Ukraine and later disbanded.
History and Evolution: The unit was formed in the spring of 2014 following the Euromaidan protests. Initially attempting to align with groups like the Azov and Right Sector, the OUN leadership broke away to form an independent unit in August 2014.
Frontline Combat: The battalion was notably active in the Donetsk region, including heavy fighting in areas like Pisky near the Donetsk airport.
Integration and Disbandment: The independent battalion officially ceased operations in September 2019, noted as one of the last units comprised purely of independent volunteer soldiers. The unit was later reformed as the OUN - Immits Battalion in 2022 to assist in the full-scale war, operating under the 71st Jaeger Brigade before its soldiers were officially transferred to the 415th Rifle Battalion in 2023.
Ideological Independence: Composed primarily of volunteer fighters from various patriotic and nationalist movements, the battalion answered primarily to regular citizens, occasionally operating outside the direct command of the official defense ministries during the early years of the conflict.
