Born in Magoffin County, Kentucky in 1921, Julian H Patrick was the son of Menifee & Virginia Patrick, he had at least 18 siblings and older half-siblings from his father's previous marriage.
Enlisting in the Army, he deployed overseas with the 32nd Armored Infantry Regiment, 3rd Armored Division to the UK.
Julian landed at Normandy after D-Day, then participated in the drive through France, Belgium, and into Germany. On March 6, 1945, he was in the lead of two Shermans advancing towards the historic cathedral in Cologne Germany when their Sherman was hit by a 75mm round from a German Panther.
Tec5 Curtis Speer & PFC Julian Patrick were killed instantly, 2Lt Kellner's leg was amputated at the knee, he managed to jump from the Sherman but died on the ground from blood loss.
PFC Julian Patrick is buried at Tom Patrick Cemetery in Salyersville, Kentucky.
Older brother Richard Menifee Patrick served in the Army in WW2 & Korea, he passed away at the age of 54 in 1972.
Older brother Charles Erwin "Pat" Patrick served in the Marine Corps for 20 years, including WW2 and Korea, he passed away at the age of 86 in 2005.
Younger brother David Stratton Patrick served in the Army during WW2, he passed away at the age of 71 in 1994.
The engagement that took his life would later become known as the Tank Duel At Cologne, which is likely the most famous tank duel in history.
