  • African American soldiers stand next to a knocked out Panzer I in Normandy, France. 1944.

    A few obsolete tanks were found in Normandy - quite often relegated to airfield protection duties with the Luftwaffe

    As for the troops themselves, I have seen this elsewhere marked as being taken in June or July - so quite possibly they are members of the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion who operated in Vierville-sur-Mer, France around 10 June 1944 - this was the only African-American combat unit to participate in the Normandy landings
