Artist's commentary
Two French Dewoitine D.520 fighters fly side-by-side, the pilot of one photographs the other.
The fully visible D.520 has markings IAC on the fuselage, 12, Dewoitine D.520, and an Anchor with Rope on the tail.
The back of the photo is stamped with texts "SAHARA" and "CHAPITRE IX".
Most likely a part of Flotille 1 de Chasse escadrilles 1AC over Africa in the Vichy French Air Force. Read more here:
