Artist's commentary
The year before last, in Showa 17 (1942), the Tainan Naval Air Group (redesignated the 251st Naval Air Group in November) before withdrawing from Rabaul. From the second person from the left in the front row: Petty Officer First Class Takeo Okumura, Petty Officer First Class Yoshio Oki, then skipping one person, Lieutenant Takeyoshi Ono, Lieutenant Commander Tadashi Nakajima (Flight Group Commander), Captain Masahisa Saito (Commanding Officer), Commander Yasuna Kozono (Executive Officer), Lieutenant Shiro Kawai, Flight Petty Officer Chief Sahei Yamashita, Petty Officer First Class Hiroyoshi Nishizawa.
