Welcome to Milbooru.org. After 3 years in development, hopefully it will have been worth the wait.

The purpose of this website was to allow those in the militaria community to archive, search and share their reference collections with others. While originally intended for equipment ID, we hope Milbooru can also be used for the general archival and education of military images. Booru websites are imageboards that allow you to use tags to describe things you see inside images or videos. You can then use the search bar on the upper left to find new works that have, or exclude, the tags you used.

For example, in this image, we have two subjects. Private First Class Raymond Gasiorowski, and Leipzig the dog. Raymond is equipped with an m1 garand, semi-automatic rifle, and Leipzig is equipped with a collar . If I wanted to find other images that contained M1 Garands and Collars, I would write in the search box: "m1_garand, collar."

Similarly, if I wanted to find images with M1 Garands, but no collars, I would write: "m1_garand, -collar."

You can add tags to any post. To add a tag on an existing post, use the edit function, which you can see just bellow the image itself. Please reuse as many tags as possible. To do so on a new post, first upload a new image by clicking the "upload" suboption beneath the "posts" tab on the top of your screen. Then, write as many tags as you wish on the menu that will appear on your right.

Posts have a score, which you can view on the bottom left, right under the uploader name and ID. Posts can be sorted by ID, Score, or other methods. To sort by score, you would add "order:score" into the search box. You can also use functions to search for groups of posts; "M1_Garand, id:>10" will return posts with M1s, but only those with a post ID above 10.

Beneath the ID, you can see the date and URL. Not all images will have a source URL, but this one is hosted on the US National Archives. That also means the copyright is known; this image is now in the Public Domain. Unfortunately, the photographer, referred to on boorus as the artist, is not known. For this reason, we have added the "unknown_artist" and "artist_request" tags.

We do know the identities of the two subjects of this image. Milbooru use's Danbooru's old "character" function to specify this. This may change in the future. To create a new character, copyright or artist, simply click the edit menu, and then write what you are trying to create in front of the new tag; in this case, you would write: "copy:public_domain char:Raymond Gasiorowski"
