Artist's commentary
December 1944, somewhere in the Pacific☀️ It must have been hot. The crew of the fast battleship USS New Jersey BB-62 is resting in the shade of the aft turret 3, 16"/50cal guns (406mm). A keen eye will spot a basket containing lines with "floating" elements. It crosses my mind that they were made of cork. You can also nicely see the thickness of the armor plate on the side of the turret.
On the catapult, a seaplane OS2U Kingfisher is positioned, and in the background, an aircraft carrier is underway.
