  • Egbert A. Ross, Hillsborough Military Academy NC.

    Edgar A. Ross later became a Captain, leading the Charlotte Grays militia, later Company C of the 1st NC Infantry. Leading Co. C at Big Bethel in 1861. He became Major of the 11th NC, the reorganization of the 1st NC. The regiment was apart of Heth's Brigade, and he attended the attack on McPherson's Ridge at Gettysburg on July 1st of 1863. He was shot and killed there while fighting against the Iron Brigade, and is memorialized by the Sons of Confederate Veterans as Camp #1423 in Charlotte NC is named after him.
